We got a fake tree this year. (Thanks Husband, You're the best. I know you like real ones better.) Don't get me wrong I like real trees, but I like artificial trees even better. Here's why:
1. Pays for it's self in 2 years. (Got it on sale at Lowe's, all their Christmas stuff is 50% off right now, so we got a great deal, I'll show you the Santa I got tomorrow)
2. Don't have to water it. In years past (okay, every year past) we forget about watering the tree a week after getting it, so by Christmas it is all dry and brittle. So dry, in fact, that I'm waiting for it to burst into flames at any moment.
3. Always looks great. Ours doesn't look great for long, remember we don't water it.
4. No dead dry needles to constantly vacuum up. Again, has to do with the water thing.
5. Pre-lit. I hate putting the lights on the tree. By the time I get done I am always in such a bad mood I don't even want to decorate the tree. But not this year. The lights are already on. Yes, Sweet!!!
It was bedtime by the time we finished the food and got the tree up,
so we just put on the new ornaments we got at Lowe's (50% off sale remember, check it out, I'm telling you). The rest of the ornaments go on tomorrow.
Hannah said that her doll "Sarah", needed to see the tree. I think it may have just been an excuse to get out of bed one more time.

Ooooh! A Pre-Lit Tree! I'm jealous! We've had our tree for 11 years now and it's still awesome and gorgeous, but we have to string lights!
We're not ready to buy a new one (especially at Kodiak prices) but maybe when we move from here we'll look into it.
I really miss you guys. I love your traditions! We met some people here that lived in Valdez for 3 years with the Coast Guard. They would drive to North Pole for Pagoda!!!

Yes I too LOVE the artificial tree! I grew up with one and the first 5 years Rikk and I were married we had a real one...I HATED it! And the pre-strung lights are the BEST! Your tree looks beautiful already. I can't wait to see it with all the ornaments!
P.S. - We had Pagodas on Friday...YUM!
Pagodas is the best! That's a great tradition! We usually have it for Caelin's birthday since it always his request.
We did real trees for the first several years of our marriage. We, too, forgot to water it! (The first year I watered it religously but somebody forgot to cut the bottom of the tree off before setting it up and it had sealed.)
I like the prelit trees also. This year ours wouldn't light. That's a bit more frustrating to try and fix than trying to hang lights on an unlit tree.
(So I'm told anyway! :) They're still unlit. We just strung a few strands over them. :)
Your tree looks beautiful! I think it may have inspired me to get mine up! I have prelit too... ahhhh, it will be nice. I have to agree with you about stringing the lights. It never ends well, usually Kent and I are grumpy and fighting by the time they are all on. I love the great ideal about chinese take-out. What a fun tradition!
My mom got a pre-lit tree a long time ago and she loves it. We have a fake tree and I just let Travis put the lights on it. Of course, it's only 3 feet tall so it's not that hard!
